About the tournament

The 23rd FIFA World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026, jointly hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico — the first three-nation World Cup in history. It is also the first edition with 48 teams, split into 12 groups of four, playing 104 matches across 16 host cities. The opener is at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 11 June 2026; the final is at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 19 July 2026.

Tournament format — 48 teams, 12 groups, 104 matches

The 2026 edition is the first 48-team World Cup. Twelve groups of four play a 72-match group stage, then 32 teams enter a brand-new Round of 32 knockout bracket leading to the final on 19 July 2026.
